Star Wars Lightsaber

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that any Star Wars loving boy must be in want of a lightsaber. And the impressive double-‘bladed’ Star Wars Rebel Inquisitor Lightsaber fits the bill nicely.

Just to put Star Wars Rebels into context for those who are not fully paid up members of the Star Wars Afiocionados Fan Club, Star Wars Rebels is an animated television series set five years before the events of the original Star Wars trilogy (the time frame between the films Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope).

And just who is the Inquisitor who owns this saber? With his ashen grey skin, shaven head and dramatic red and black eye make-up, he is a Pau’an agent of the Galactic Empire who hunts down any Jedi that survived the destruction of the Jedi Order and eliminates them with ruthless precision. Receiving his orders from Darth Vader, the Inquisitor is trained in the ways of the Dark Side of the Force and has become the deadly foe of any Jedi.

Mmmm, sounds like the perfect role model, then. But actually, there are benefits to this type of “good versus bad” play. Research has demonstrated that it can boost your child’s social and moral growth, while role play helps children explore the difference between right and wrong, to understand rules, control their impulses and make sense of complex moral issues. Playing the bad guy can help a child gain control over the things that frighten them by experiencing both sides of the power play equation. Plus, if your little one is into knights and epic battles, you might even consider getting one of these Medieval times swords for sale. As far as lightsabers go, a double-ended sword of energy is pretty awesome.

The Inquisitor Lightsaber has swash-buckling pizzazz that will encourage plenty of elaborate twirling and swishing showmanship that would be the envy of many a majorette. Just be sure to give your little warrior plenty of space for his art!

The lightsaber is ‘double-bladed’ to make an impressive 3-foot-long weapon, with its red blades singifying its evil deployment. The blades can also be dismantled to create two single lightsabers, perfect for dramatic duelling a deux! The blades extend with the flick of a button, and retract for neater storage or when carrying. After all, no Inquisitor wants to be hoisted by his own petard!

Of course, Star Wars is not merely about combat. Fans of the Light Side can also have a more tender moment by snuggling up with a cute Yoda soft toy: he’s sure to get any errant Jedi back on the path of goodly righteousness.

Fun colourful facts

• In the first two released films, lightsabers had blades that were either blue (for Jedi) or red (for Sith). In Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker’s new lightsaber was blue during initial editing, the early movie trailer and the official theatrical posters, but was green in the final cut of the movie – but not for any deep and meaningful philosophical reasons. The colour change was made so Luke’s lightsaber would stand out better against the blue sky of Tatooine.
• Cool colours in shades of purple, green and blue became the standard blade colors for Jedi lightsabers, while the Sith’s lightsabers emitted warm colors of yellow, orange and red.
• Actor Samuel L Jackson, who plays Mace Windu, requested an amethyst-bladed lightsaber, as first seen in Attack of the Clones, as a way to make his character stand out among other Jedi. Plus, purple just happens to be Samuel L Jackson’s favourite colour.
