Celebrate Labour Day around the USA this weekend with fabulous parades and festivals for all the family…

Boston, Massachusetts Boston Arts Festival
The Boston Arts Festival has grown from a day-long event 10 years ago to a three-day extravaganza with a jam-packed schedule of events including everything from the Boston Ballet to Blue Man Group. The festival takes place in the Christopher Columbus Park and promises to inspire and excite adults and children alike. Don’t miss the show-stopping fireworks display which kicks off on Saturday at 21.00.

Chicago, Illinois Remix Chicago
Taking place in the Logan Square neighbourhood, Remix Chicago is an environmentally conscious and eco-friendly event. Previously known as Ravenswood Remix, Remix includes many activities designed specifically for children including the StoryBus, chalk drawings and art workshops. Street artists and live music acts complete the eclectic line-up along with a wide range of food vendors to keep up the energy.

Denver, Colorado A Taste Of Colorado
Over 500,000 people flock to Denver’s Labor Day celebrations over the course of the weekend, and this year, they can enjoy performances from music acts including MC Hammer and the culinary offerings of over 50 restaurants and food trucks. After enjoying some soul music and learning to dance latino style, head over to the KidzStage where magic, clowns and puppets are all on hand to wow children.

Kansas City, Kansas Santa-Cali-Gon
This annual event takes place on the historic Independence Square and features over 500 exhibitors including crafters, vendors and food booths. There are four music stages offering an eclectic mix of acts with everything from soul to country western, as well as a carnival and good old-fashioned fun such as watermelon-seed spitting competitions and ice-cream eating contests.

Los Angeles, California L.A. County Fair
Let children’s imaginations run wild at the L.A. County Fair’s with a fancy dress area “The Land of Frogs, Princesses and Knights”. Children can model their favourite gown, learn some battle skills at Knight School or leap through the Amphibian Pond before checking out the Garden Railroad and Kiddies Carnival. It is a little way out of town, but there are excellent transport links for this special event. Don’t panic if you can’t make it for Labor Day – the fair runs until the end of September.

New York, New York West Indian-American Carnival
One of New York’s largest street parades, steel drums and reggae sounds provide the soundtrack to this carnival, while show-stopping costumes, stilted dancers and West Indian food ensure the whole day is a big day out.

Taking place next to picturesque Lake Eola, Orlando’s traditional Labor Day Rally is the perfect place to squeeze in a mini-history lesson with an authentic workers’ rally in action amongst all the other activities on offer. After renting a rowing boat and grabbing a bite to eat in the Relax Grill, children can enjoy playtime in the park’s fenced playground or the surrounding open green spaces.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Tri State Labor Parade and AFL-CIO Family Festival
The Tri State Labor Parade winds its way through Philadelphia’s main streets and ends at Penn’s Landing where a full day-long festival takes place. The main stage plays host to The Urban Guerrilla Orchestra while the rest of the waterfront venue is filled with family-focused activities including a Rollin’ Raceway, face painters and a Make & Take Craft Centre.

Phoenix, Arizona Arizona Science Center Kids Day
Labor Day is all about families at the Arizona Science Center, where it’s also the last chance to see the popular Sesame Street Presents: The Body exhibition. To bid farewell, Elmo has roped in a special guest in the form of the Cookie Monster, who will join him to meet and greet visitors as well as take part in special activities in the Sesame Street classroom. Be sure to arrive before 14.00 to enjoy additional healthy eating exhibits and workshops from companies including Raising Arizona Kids, Jamba Juice and Shamrock.

Portland, Oregon Labor Day Weekend Harvest Festival
Though the Pumpkin Patch where this event is held can be visited all summer, this is your only chance to see harvesting in action! The harvesting is accompanied by free hay bale rides, mini-haybaler demonstrations and – for the first time – a giant hay maze for the whole family to get lost in. With fresh, homemade food on offer, you don’t need to worry about taking a picnic and can instead feast on freshly-prepared corn-on-the-cob, pulled pork, caramel apples and peach cobbler.

Seattle, Washington Bumbershoot
While the astounding music line-up is enough to impress any adult, it’s the Youngershoot Kids Zone curated by Seattle Children’s Museum which will impress anyone under 10. Open daily from 11.00 to 18.00, Youngershoot is the place to learn something new before heading back to school, whether it is how to ride a bike with Pedalheads’ experts or the basics of a new instrument at the School of Rock.

Washington DC, Maryland DC Blues Festival
Expect big celebrations at this year’s DC Blues Festival as the Carter Barron Amphitheater plays host to the festival’s 25th birthday. With blues acts including Albert Castiglia and Fast Eddie & the Slowpokes taking to the stage, this is the perfect crash course in blues for newcomers as well as avid fans. The spacious amphitheater provides more than enough space for concert-goers to sit and relax or join the dancing. To ensure children have plenty more to keep themselves entertained, there are also adventure trails, a musical instrument petting zoo and workshops for budding B.B Kings and Aretha Franklins.
