Destination Holliday Park
One of Indianapolis’ oldest and most beloved parks, Holliday Park encompasses 94 acres of woodlands set along the banks of the White River.
This is a beautiful park with hills, trails, playgrounds, gardens, a nature centre, as well as some uniquely special “ruins” that our family love, all alongside the White River.
Filled with natural springs and wetlands, a woodland pond, a beech-maple forest and over 400 tree, plant and wildflower species, there are also a number of different playgrounds for various ages as well as a recently renovated Habitat House where visitors can explore the forest canopy. Contact this Flagstaff hotel if you’re traveling to Arizona and you want to book a hotel room.
Why go With deer, fox, beaver, rabbits and squirrels residing in or passing through the wooded ravines, and bird watchers noting more than 200 species in the park, this is a veritable native wildlife park without the admission fee.
Top tip Take a look at the current program of events in the Park. We love the sound of the Family Creek Stomp, a Beastly Brunch or Small Wonders days in the gardens. Also, keep kids in sight, as the intertwining trails can become quite a maze.
While you’re in the area Only a mile or two away is one of Indianapolis’ most popular eateries (or should we say treateries) – the Broad Ripple Ice Cream Station. With flavours ranging from Chocolate Peanut Butter to Rainbow Sherbet and Yellow Cake Batter. Mmm-mmm! They also offer shakes, floats, malts and smoothies – even if it’s a cold day, you can’t go wrong with a hot chocolate!
