On the shores of northern Idaho’s Lake Coeur d’Alene, Red Horse Mountain Ranch is an all-American Dude ranch that will undoubtedly have the family clamouring to return time and time again!
One of the few US ranches that offer horseback riding programs for children ages three to six, Red Horse Mountain Ranch has more than 60 guest horses – from quarter horses and appaloosas to draft crosses and paints – and dozens of trails to suit every level of rider.
With a master’s degree in
Special Education, the manager of
the children’s program devises a specific program for each child guest
– kids do everything adults do, but
at a kid’s pace!
Located in beautiful Hidden Mountain Valley, the ranch is set on 300,000 acres of Idaho’s Panhandle National Forest with 120 miles of riding trails that offer awe-inspiring mountain views.

There are beginner to advanced western riding adventures, and riders can participate in advanced rides after passing a proficiency test. In addition to horseback riding, you can also enjoy lake fishing, archery, challenge courses, zip lines, a climbing wall, hiking, yoga, kayaking, bike tours, mountain biking, boat tours, swimming, as well as self-guided adventures around the property.
Stables With seven private log cabins – all very authentic Western style with the addition of luxury touches – all you need to decide is just how big your posse will be and the folks at Red Horse Mountain Ranch will recommend the perfect option. For extended family celebrations, the Hilltop House is the perfect venue with space for 10 people, or for a family of three, a suite is the sweet solution.
