The Exploratorium may have opened on April 17, 2013 at Pier 15 at San Francisco’s Embarcadero, but its history and resources are significantly older than that. The brainchild of Frank Oppenheimer – who was variously a professor, a high school teacher, a cattle rancher, and an experimental physicist – the Exploratorium was based on a “library of experiments” that Frank had developed to allow his students to explore scientific phenomena at their own pace, following their own curiosity. This was a groundbreaking idea for a science museum, and in 1969 the Exploratorium was opened.

With the opening of the new Exploratorium, there are now hundreds of exhibits and activities to get involved in covering everything from Astronomy and Space, Culture, Earth, Everyday Science and the Human Body, to Seeing, Colour, optical illusions, food science, sports science… Take a look at the museum’s video of their new location here.
