Salone del Mobile

by Brenden Lovett on 28/07/2012

The global epicentre for the showcase of furniture and homewares, Salone del Mobile is a mammoth interior design affair with over 2500 exhibitors.

‘Interiors of tomorrow’ was the motto of 2013, while 2012 was all about nostalgia, homage (to the work of great masters of the past) and the use of refund (but improved) materials, from plastics to velvet and timber. In the recent tough economic times, products are opting to be more down to earth, whilst never renouncing their focus on the future. The result is that designers are tending to have one eye on eco-design and architecture, with natural materials and  simple and graceful shapes, and the other on futuristic, high-tech and minimalist designs, yet always following a ‘less is more’ philosophy.

With its showcase of new designs by iconic companies and designers such as Magis and Eero Aarnio to radical by newcomers such as Joost van Veldhuizen and Lana Agiyen, Salone del Mobile cannot fail to surprise and delight.
