While studying Industrial Design in 1992 at Carnegie Mellon University, Patrick Calello was challenged with the task of developing new consumer product concepts for the do-it-yourself wooden hobby industry.

Being a “car-guy”, Calello developed a novel toy car concept that could be fashioned out of wood. The idea was to inspire creativity in children by allowing them to visualize and assemble cars of their own design – a reinvention of the classic wooden toy car.
