As one of the most iconic figures in the Star Wars universe, Jedi Grand Master Yoda is a mascot for the Small is Beautiful brigade. What he lacks in stature is amply compensated by his strength of character and the wisdom that comes with age. He is over 900 years old, after all.
There’s a slightly comic touch of the garden gnome meets elf about Yoda’s distinctive features with his pointy ears (all the better to hear you with) and large tired eyes. And, despite his position of great influence and authority, he still manages to elicits a sense of “aaw” for his cuteness, as well as “awe” for his cleverness. Fans of the films will also know that Yoda adopts a rather endearing back-to-front way of speaking, which is shown off in this talking version of the toy.
Some of our favourite words of Yoda wisdom are “Truly wonderful, the mind of a child is.” As an honourable role model, perhaps some of his emotional intelligence will rub off on your child.
Other phrases that he utters include: “When 900 years old you reach, look as good you will not, hmmm” and the classic “Do, or do not. There is no try.”
Dressed in his traditional Jedi robes and made from super-soft plush fabric, the Yoda soft toy has embroidered features and also has the perfect diminutive dimensions for cuddles and hugs.
Fun fact If you think there’s something vaguely familiar about Yoda’s voice in the Star Wars films, it could be to do with the fact that he is voiced by master puppeteer, Frank Oz, who is also responsible for many famous voices from The Muppet Show, including Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear, as well as Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster.
Good For… Imaginative pretend play, communication skills, storytelling and vocabulary
Keep in Mind… Although the soft toy is suitable for all ages, Yoda has some soft fluffy fur behind his ears, which may molt slightly so it’s not suitable for babies. It is also hand-wash only
What Kids Love With his quirky features, Yoda is hugely appealing and scores highly on the cute scale
What Parents Love If you’re a fan of all that Star Wars has to offer, this is a great way to share your enthusiasm with your child. Just be warned, there’s an awful lot of Star Wars merchandise out there and this could be the start of a magnificent obsession!
